Abstract
Indonesian high school studies use 2013 curricullum. There are a number of differences in this curriculum from the one previously in place. One of them is the method which decides the high school students’ specific major. The fact that the major division is made in grade X causes it. Futhermore, majors done manually which takes time and is not considered efficient. This research is done to help students and teachers alike to face this issue better and to find out the accuracy of the algorithmic implementation of ID3 when compared to data from previous student majors. The method used in this research is the Iterative Dichotomizer 3, or better known as the ID3. ID3 makes a decision tree which will later be used as consideration to decide which major a student will be assigned to while s/he is studying in high school, and this application used Java Programming as a tools. The result of this research is a data mining application to decide whether a student should take natural science or social science. The conclusion is in accordance with the needs of the application and purpose of the author, by using 371 datasets and 20 data trainings which generate accuracy by 80%.
