    Abstract

    People regard the need for information as a very important thing. They expect to get the exact and accurate information as rapid as possible. The tardiness in delivering information can change the purpose of the information. Hence, a good information system should provide the understandable information in a short period. The development of information system at SMPN 16 Ngaliyan Semarang is an implementation of one of the library purposes, namely providing the information and knowledge to students, teachers and other employees. They have applied few ways to improve the quality of learning facilities, namely classifying books according to the fields, developing the students and teachers quality and increasing the grade of school accreditation. This new information system tends to simplify the old-fashioned system and it also provides limitation of the use of the data. Applying this system, the data processing will be more rapid and accurate. Moreover, it can prevent the data duplication, provide more specified and understandable report and give more security for the confidentiality of the data. This final paper will elucidate the activities and the products as the results of each development stage. The design of information system involves the data processing for books and members, the borrowing and returning management, the search operation, and preparing reports. What they have applied and what they have not applied at the development of the software will be elaborated in the last chapter.
