Abstract

This thesis entitled Techniques of used in Time Flies for Ms. Wiz by Terence Blacker into Ms. Wiz Kembali ke Masa Silam by Mala Suhendra. This thesis has two objectives. To find out the kinds of translation techniques used by the translator in translating the novel entitled Time Flies for Ms. Wiz into Ms. Wiz Kembali ke Masa Silam by Mala Suhendra. The qualitative research is a procedure of research, in which the collected data will not be created by statistic procedure. The researcher selects the data which are considered to be typical of the wider population. The data of this thesis show that the translator used two types of techniques in translating the novel. They are Technique dealing with Non Equivalence at word level. This techniques includet translation by a more general word (Super ordinate), translation using a loan word or loan word plus explanation, translation by cultural substitution, and translation by omission. Meanwhile the second one is techniques dealing with idioms. This technique covers translation by using an idiom of similar meaning and form, translation by using an idiom of similar meaning but dissimilar form, and translation by paraphrasing.
