Abstract
Nowadays, the technology is growing rapidly. It has even reached education sector. One of growing technology is sms gateway. In academic sector, sms gateway is needed because it can provided a variety of information related to the student progress.In SMA N 1 Bergas, there are some students who didn't gave notification letters to their parents. The letter containing the notice of monthly payment, student presences, student grades, extracurricular activity presences, that should be accepted by their parents. Because of that, parents have problems in monitoring student progress. So, the author built an sms-based academic information system to help the parents and school to monitor students progress. This application use prototype method for development process. The steps of this method are identify user requirements, mocking-up, determine whether mockup is acceptable, coding, testing, and deployment. The result of this research is the creation of an sms-based academic information system at SMA N 1 Bergas using prototype method.
