    Abstract

    This thesis, entitled “Transitivity Analysis in The Friday Sermon delivered by Mufti Ismail Ibn Musa Menk at The East London Mosque, Whitechapel on September 27th, 2013” taken from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZK09F_fHts. it has three objectives: describing types of process, related participants, related circumstances, and field of discourse in the Friday Sermon delivered by Mufti Ismail Ibn Musa Menk at The East London Mosque, Whitechapel on September 27th, 2013. This study is based on theory of transitivity in Systemic Functional Linguistics. In this research, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method since the writer attempts to identify each clause in all process types, related participants, related circumstances and field of discourse in the Friday Sermon delivered by Mufti Ismail Ibn Musa Menk at The East London Mosque, Whitechapel on September 27th, 2013. There are 513 clauses found in the Friday Sermon. There are 244 (47,56%) material process; 77 (15%) mental process; 22 (4,28%) behavioural process; 32 (6,23%) verbal process; 129 (25,14%) relational process; and 2 (0,38%) existential process. Material process becomes the dominant, while existential process becomes the least and also there is no meteorological process in the Friday Sermon. Material process becomes the dominant because the sermoner, Mufti Ismail Ibn Musa Menk invites the audience in his Friday sermon to obey all the instructions of Allah.
